Essential factors to consider before redesigning a website

In the world of product design, redesign is a sensitive topic. Frequently, the end outcome is similar to the beginning point, and the only metric that is growing is user frustration.

“A UX Prototype is essentially a draft version of a design that helps understand the concept, user flow, layout, and functionality.”

Many businesses that believe they require a redesign solution are simply squandering money. It should be handled carefully after discussions and reviews.

Factors to consider when redesigning

Focused Content

Make the button the focal point, and add a few lines of supporting text to enhance awareness. Your landing page is essentially a call to action, not an instructional document.

Mobile Adaptivity

A mobile-responsive website is more than simply a scaled-down duplicate of the desktop one. It may take on an entirely different design that places an emphasis on functions that are helpful for mobile users, such as interactive maps and call buttons.

Know your audience

Use data from analytics or other tools to understand your audience’s usage patterns and incorporate them into your design and site architecture.

Speed

The quicker the site, the more clicks it will receive. A fast loading page helps users to scroll quicker and obtain answers or information more quickly. Both click rate and on-page behaviour have an influence on Google ranking and lead generation.

Checkoutflow

The checkout flow is a key factor to consider while revamping your website. The best way to ensure that your checkout process functions properly regardless of how customers reach your online business is to test it on several devices.

Navigation

Enhancing the user experience on your website entails making it simple for users to browse. If users are unsure where certain content or links are, they are likely to leave your website and never return. To make it simple for users to read your content and learn more about your business, it’s crucial to have clear navigation menus with links to your major pages.

Architecture

Your website’s purpose is to host content that directs buyers to your product. Your website’s content is mapped to the buyer’s journey through its content architecture. The content of your website should be tailored to satisfy the needs of your user based on how and when they find it.

What causes redesigns to fail?

Let’s look at some of the factors that cause the failure of redesigns:

  • Focusing entirely on the aesthetics: A frequent tendency among product owners whi initialises a redesign is that they see some major successful products with fashionable looks and want to follow that road by rebuilding their applications similarly. It is necessary to realise that contemporary design is just the tip of the iceberg.
  • Assuming user’s needs instead of questioning them: It is rare for users to say, “We want this app to be redone.” People generally dislike it when their favourite apps are redesigned. Adapting to the new interface is difficult, and people generally prefer what they are currently used to. By asking users initially, you can make them happier while saving a lot of time and resources that would otherwise be spent on complex design procedures.
  • Implement redesign without testing: There are quite a few instances where businesses have turned a blind eye toward user testing and experienced unforeseen losses. These are indicators that the business needs help understanding the redesign process and objectives.

Checklist for redesigning

You can go through the following redesign preparation checklist before answering this question:

  • UX evaluation
  • Performance evaluation
  • Clearly defined goals
  • Analysis of alternative solutions

After all of this, if you still need to make a choice on the redesign, you may seek an advice from UX design professional. The only time a UX audit makes sense is when a third party reviews it.
